Skill Builders
Kindergarten students need to practice zippering jackets and buttoning sweaters independently. It is best to have them lay a sweater or jacket on a bed or couch and practice that way first. Once they have mastered that skill, then they can transfer to doing looking down when the article of clothing is on them. They should also be working on learning to "read" the color words. Practice cards were sent home by me last week.
First graders should be reading their library books and the little readers that are coming home in a plastic bag once or twice a week. When a student has read 10 books, they will earn a reading certificate from me. Please help your child return the books (in the bags, as these are my own personal ones) on the day they are due.
Second graders are working on counting coins. They are using quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. We will soon be working on telling time. They should also be working on finishing their first sight word book or have recently brought home their second one. Work on these for a few minutes each night.
Third graders are studying multiplication. They should be learning the 2,3,4,5 times tables. Study these at home so they are memorized. They will need to know these for the rest of their lives!
Fourth graders are reviewing mult. and div. facts and are doing long division practice and multiplying 3 or 4 digits by 2 digits. We are also doing a lot of practice in reading comprehension and synonyms/antonyms to prepare for the Iowa tests in early Feb.
Fifth graders are currently learning vocab. list #10 from class. They should continually study the commonly misspelled word lists given out by Mr. Chateau at the beginning of the school year. We are doing reading comprehension and language arts practice sheets to prepare for the Iowa tests in early February.
