    • What makes Cathedral School of Saint Mary Special?

During Catholic Schools Week students were encouraged to use an art form as a means to share what they appreciate most about receiving a Catholic education and/or attending Cathedral School of Saint Mary. This was a reflective, collaborative, and fun project where students came up with some very creative individual and group presentations sharing why they value receiving a Catholic education. Students received teacher and peer evaluations using a rubric assessment grid and the entire class used the Mimio voting interactive assessment tools to choose top projects.

Below is an essay submission from one of our students.
"My name is Carlin Livermore and I go to Cathedral School of Saint Mary for many great reasons.  First, my parents would like me to have an exceptional Catholic and academic education.  This is important because I am planning on being very successful in my life.  I would like to grow personally and enhancing my faith will only make me a stronger person.
Cathedral School of Saint Mary is very special to me.  Everyone is very friendly and I can make friends easily.  I can grow my faith every day. I speak about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ everyday and I worship him along with many of my friends.
All of the discipline and hard work makes me a better person.  I am thankful for our Principal and all of my teachers.  Cathedral school not only has a great academic program, but they also have a great athletic program and since I like to do sports this is also a blessing.  Whether I am in class or playing in the team sports, I am supported by the teachers as well as my peers.
Cathedral School of Saint Mary does an amazing job at building me up as a whole person.  This is what getting a Catholic education means to me."

      God bless,
      Very Rev. Albert Laforet, Jr.”

Welcome to Cathedral School of Saint Mary,

Cathedral School of Saint Mary has been in continuous operation for more than 144 years.  We are the largest ministry of the Cathedral of Saint Mary, the seat of the Diocese of Austin, and home to our bishop, Joe Vasquez STL, D.D.

The Cathedral School occupies a special place in Texas both physically and spiritually.  We stand in the heart of downtown Austin, the capital of Texas.  Our school is enmeshed in the rich and vibrant history of Texas with educational opportunities right outside our door.  Our classroooms are not only located inside our historical buildings, but include the Texas State capital, the University of Texas LBJ Library, the O. Henry Museum, The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, The French Legation Museum, to name just a few.  Our classrooms roll out into the surrounding central Texas hill country and beyond.

We also stand as a witness to the transformative effect of a Catholic education.  Throughout our daily routine, we take time to make all things sacred and reflective for our students, faculty and staff.  This allows us to incorporate our Catholic identity in all we do.  Our faculty and staff are committed to forming students both spiritually and physically, thus preparing them for the life of an active and engaged christian.

Our school community is as diverse as our city.  We welcome families from over 35 zip codes in and around the Austin area.  Our diversity is our strength.  We believe that people can come from all walks of life and succeed.  We believe that it is through this diversity that we discover not only the uniqueness of others, but our own unique, Christ centered place in this large world.

Please, come in for a visit.  We welcome you and your family.  Come see what a Catholic education at the Cathedral School of Saint Mary is all about.

      Yours in Christ,

      Mr. Robert LeGros, M.S.A.
